The AMA Colorado Board gathered at Top Golf to ring in the new board year.

As AMA Colorado transitions to a new year – and a new board – incoming and outgoing leaders reflect on accomplishments and priorities to come.

The stage has been set for the American Marketing Association Colorado chapter. Now it’s time to engage – and launch.

“Last year was a rebuilding year,” said Deborah Finestone, outgoing AMA-CO President, at the organization’s unofficial handoff at the Centennial Topgolf recently.

She noted 2022/23’s priorities of reestablishing the group’s foundation and returning to in-person program, with specific focus on identifying member needs in a rapidly evolving post-pandemic landscape. This has resulted in the emergence of new event series (such as AMA-CO’s hike club), expanded industry mixers and company diversification, and the standing up of the organization’s Slack channel as a centralized communication resource.

“A lot of groundwork was set with everyone who contributed their time this past year,” Finestone said. “I’m thrilled for the new board coming in – I have all the confidence in the world in them and know they’re going to take us to great heights.”

Central to that process will be incoming President and self-styled “team cheerleader,” Alycia Campbell. And though the org chart may reflect one structural reality, she sees her role primarily as a team- and community-builder.

“It’s my job to make sure everything functions smoothing, but also to empower everybody on the board to do what they came here to do,” Campbell said.

For the 2023/24 term, she plans to continue building on and significantly scaling multimodal programming with a balance of networking and social events, webinars and workshops, keeping members at the center of everything and a focus on helping entrepreneurs grow their enterprise.

A small-business owner herself, Campbell sees AMA-CO’s culture as one of its key selling points, planning to build on the commitment to DEI and sense of community that drew her into membership – and eventually to her leadership role.

“I originally came in (to AMA) because I didn’t know marketing and needed to rub elbows with people who did,” she said. “The way they invited and embraced me was really remarkable and welcoming.

“That’s the sense of belonging  I hope to continue – wherever you’re from, you can come as you are and find a place for you here.”
